✔ No upfront costs or termination fees. Ever.

Reduce your carbon footprint and bring renewable, clean energy to your neighborhood!

how It Works

1. Check Availability

Community solar is only available in certain areas, and each of our gardens has limited space. Simply enter your zip code and your utility provider to instantly see if you’re eligible.

2. Join A Garden

All you need is your utility account number to get started and we’ll get you set up in one of our solar gardens. We handle the communications with your utility, and you maintain your privacy and control of your utility account.

3. Start Saving Money

Each month, your solar garden will produce clean, renewable energy on your behalf. Solar bill credits for that production will appear on your Xcel Energy electricity bill, reducing what you owe to your utility. You’ll also receive a SunShare bill for that solar production. The amount you owe SunShare will always be 5% less than what you saved on your Xcel Energy bill. This results in guaranteed savings each month with your SunShare subscription.

Your utility service stays the same, there’s no equipment on your home, and there’s no change to how you receive electricity—just a straightforward, guaranteed discount through a community solar subscription.

SAVINGS FOR LIFE!

Now you can reduce your carbon footprint while cutting back on your monthly expenses. Plus, enjoy flexible cancellation with no termination fees ever. That means completely risk-free solar and savings for life.

What Is Community Solar?

SunShare Community Solar is an easy, affordable way for you to enjoy clean, renewable energy. In 2023, Minnesota passed the Low-to-Moderate-Income-Accessible Community Solar Gardens Act (HF2310.4), which increases access to solar gardens so more Minnesotans can choose solar energy.

Community solar provides access to solar energy for homeowners, renters, apartments, and homes whose roof isn’t suitable for panels – with no upfront cost. Instead of putting panels on your roof, we build large solar projects called community solar gardens with thousands of panels. You subscribe to a portion of the energy produced in the community solar garden, along with many other residents who share your commitment to renewable energy. Your utility continues delivering your energy and you receive solar credits on your electricity bill. It’s that easy.
