What Is Community Solar?
SunShare Community Solar is an easy, affordable way for New Mexicans to enjoy clean, renewable energy. In 2021, New Mexico passed the Community Solar Act (SB 84), a landmark bill that opened the door for residents across the state to directly benefit from locally produced solar power while supporting the growth of clean energy jobs and investment in their communities.
Community solar provides access to solar energy for homeowners, renters, apartment dwellers, and anyone whose roof isn’t suitable for panels—with no upfront cost. Instead of putting panels on your roof, we build medium to large community solar gardens that generate renewable energy right here in New Mexico. You subscribe to a portion of the energy those gardens produce, alongside other New Mexicans who care about clean energy and saving money. PNM continues delivering your electricity, and you receive community solar bill credits on your electric bill. It’s that easy.

Solar bill credits for that production will appear on your PNM electricity bill, reducing what you owe to your utility. You’ll also receive a SunShare bill for that solar production. The amount you owe SunShare will always be 30% less for income-qualified subscribers than what you saved on your PNM bill.
