Since 2011, SunShare has proudly offered Colorado residents a choice in where their energy comes from by building large community solar farms in Colorado (“gardens” with thousands of panels), in communities across the Front Range. Community solar allows everyone, regardless of if they rent or own, to access renewable energy. Becoming a SunShare subscriber means having solar energy produced on your behalf, so you can make a significant, positive impact on our environment , shrink your carbon footprint, and contribute to more Colorado renewable energy in your community.
SunShare builds community solar gardens that feed into the energy grids of two major Colorado power companies: Xcel Energy® and Colorado Springs Utilities. As one of the largest and most experienced community solar companies in the country, we help Colorado residents and businesses offset their traditional fossil fuel use while contributing to a cleaner future by protecting the environment. SunShare is one of the only community solar companies in Denver whose mission is to serve residential subscribers, and the first to own a 100% residential community solar garden.
Community solar is an easy way to live sustainably and access the benefits of renewable energy. Instead of putting panels on your own roof, you simply subscribe to one of our large gardens of solar panels we build in a nearby community. There’s no installation, no maintenance, and no stress – just clean, renewable, and cost-effective renewable energy.
When you choose community solar, you’re also supporting SunShare’s efforts to reduce soil erosion through the planting of vegetation under the panels and to enhance local agriculture by planting pollinator-friendly native seed mixes. Our community solar gardens are local ecosystems for honeybees and monarch butterflies, and we even host beehives that produce honey for local honey favorite Rice’s Honey!. At SunShare, we work hard to leave the land on which we build our solar gardens better than we found it.
SunShare’s goal is to make solar energy accessible for any Colorado resident who wants it, regardless of living situation. Our community solar farms are located throughout Colorado, and any Xcel Energy or Colorado Springs Utilities customer can subscribe. Our gardens are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, but if we don’t have capacity available right away, we will add you to our waitlist so that you can begin receiving the benefits of clean, renewable energy as soon as space becomes available.
If you’re ready to be kinder to the environment and offset your fossil fuel use with the easiest, most cost-effective, and fastest-growing Colorado solar companies, contact us today! You can reach us at info@mysunshare.com or fill out the form on mysunshare.com/waitlist to have one of our team members contact you right away.
As a leader in green living, Colorado was the first state to enact community solar legislation. In 2010, HB 10-1342 (better known as The Community Solar Gardens Act) was passed, allowing independent companies to provide renewable energy through solar gardens to residents and organizations. This law paved the way for community solar, and it has spread across the country. As soon as the Community Solar Garden Act was enacted, our founder, David Amster-Olszewski, worked tirelessly to develop the first ever competitive community solar project in Colorado (and in the nation!) with the second largest utility in the state, Colorado Springs Utility. As of 2020, the ten-year anniversary of the first community solar legislation, some 19 states plus the District of Columbia had followed in Colorado’s footsteps by passing community solar legislation. SunShare continues its efforts to create legislation and policy that enable businesses, municipalities, and homes throughout the country to play a part in the shift from fossil fuels to clean, renewable solar energy.
