A Colorado solar developer spent more than $100,000 to purchase gift cards for Colorado retailers and charities to support businesses and incentivize residents to try solar energy.

SunShare, the developer of Weld County’s largest solar garden, announced the purchase this week. New subscribers can enroll by Sept. 15 to receive a gift card or select a nonprofit for a donation.

Current customers who refer a friend to join the program are also eligible for the give back program, which will provide a gift card or donation funds for both customers.

The company has supported more than 150 businesses through the project, and it continues to add more. Most of the businesses are located in Denver, Boulder and Breckenridge, but subscribers can contact the company to have other businesses and charities added to the list of supported organizations.
